St. Louis in Rome: The Influence of Italian Baroque in France

Venue: The Chapel of St. Mary at The Saint Paul Seminary in St. Paul, MN

Repertory: Music of Carissimi’s most illustrious student, Marc-Antoine Charpentier, and Italian composers such as Bernardo Pasquini, Vincenzo Ugolini, Antonio Cifra and the violinist, Arcangelo Corelli, who were all active at the Church of San Luigi dei Francesi in early-baroque Rome.

 

 

Program II

Spaniards in Rome: Music of Tomás Luis de Victoria (1548 – 27 August 1611)

In celebration of the 400th Anniversary of his death

Dates 2011:

Venue: The Chapel of St. Mary at The Saint Paul Seminary in St. Paul, MN

Repertory: Music for All Saints and All Souls of the two Spaniards in Rome: Tomás de Victoria’s Requiem and Cristóbal de Morales’ Dialogue Motets.

Lenten Oratories: Music of Bonifazio Graziani & Giacomo Carissimi

Venue: Our Lady of Lourdes, 1 Lourdes Place, Minneapolis, MN 55414-1062

*Nativity of Our Lord, 1900 Wellesley Avenue, Saint Paul, MN 55105

Repertory: Graziani’s only two existing oratories, based on the Old Testament story of Adam and Eve and the New Testament parable, The Prodigal Son, are set with four Motets of Carissimi, which form the spiritual exercise for the 2012 Lenten Season. All transcriptions from manuscripts, these works demonstrate the similarities and unique differences in compositional style of these two composers of Marino Italy.

 

Program IV

The Magdalene Project: The Ecstasy in Music

Dates 2012:
Friday, April 13th - 7:30pm-9:00pm
Sunday, April 15th - 2:00pm-3:30pm

Venue: TBA

Repertory: Music about the Magdalene, music that sings for the Magdalene and music that praises her and the ecstasy and the authority of the feminine in the late renaissance and early baroque. Music of M. da Gagliano, Frescolbaldi, Cozzolani, D. Mazzochi, and Falconieri.
