Carissimi Motet – Quasi Aquila T, VV, fagotto, B.c.
Bach Cantata 147 (Leipzig) Herz und Mund und Tat und Leben
Carissimi Motet – Alma Redemptoris Mater SSB, B.c.
Vivaldi Magnificat 610a
Ever wonder about the original context of a week-known melody? Jesu, Joy of Man’s Desiring, for example is found in Bach Cantata 147 dedicated to Mary, Heart, Mouth, Deed and Life.
Consortium Carissimi’s annual Epiphany Concerts continue to bring the larger works of the Baroque to the Twin Cities audience. Vivalidi’s delightful Magnificat setting and J.S. Bach’s Cantata 147 will nicely frame two motets of Giacomo Carissimi.
Epiphany just can’t get much better.
