Under the direction of Sara Thompson, the Consortium Carissimi ensemble will perform works of women composers of the early Baroque: Chiara Margarita Cozzolani, Barbara Strozzi, Francesca Caccini, Isabella Leonarda. These great works will combine the ethereal voices of Consortium Carissimi with Sara Thompson on baroque bass.

Sara Thompson enjoys playing a wide variety of music, and currently performs with the Lyra Baroque Orchestra, the Bach Society of Minnesota, and Consortium Carissimi. For five years she served on the Lyra Board of Directors. She has been on the faculty of The School for Strings, Hebrew Arts School, Juilliard Pre-College, and the MacPhail Center for Music.

Founder and Artistic Director Garrick Comeaux notes, “The Magdalene Project is the result of detailed research done by Dr. Kelly Harness of the University of Minnesota. At the heart of this program is the person of Mary Magdalene and the women who composed music about her and for special occasions of their religious life as contemplative women.”
