Project II – Vespro della Beata Vergine – 1610
Monteverdi’s Marian Vespers of 1610 was his first sacred work after his first publication twenty-eight years prior, and stands out for its assimilation of both old and new styles, although it cannot be specifically classified as prima pratica or seconda pratica, per se. The Vespers is monumental in scale, and requires vocal forces skillful enough to cover up to 10 vocal parts in some movements and split into separate choirs in others.
Repertory: Marian Vespers of Claudio Monteverdi (1567-1643)

Project III – Usquequo peccatores
Consortium Carissimi has performed over these past seven seasons many of Carissimi’s larger scale motets. The metamorphosis of the motet into the oratory is particular to this period of composition, rendering the distinction between the two difficult. This project brings back eight motets of Giacomo Carissimi. These motets, scored for violins, mixed voices and figured bass instruments will be recorded for the Naxos label in July of 2015, our third CD with this phenomenal stateside ensemble.
